GOOD FRIDAY + EASTER SUNDAY 2026
War. Poverty. Political unrest. Economic hardship. Environmental disasters. It’s not hard to find evidence of ruins in our world. And if we're honest, it's not just out there, it’s also within each of us. Broken relationships. Shattered hopes. The mess we've made of our own lives.
The Old Testament prophet Isaiah spoke to a devastated people who knew ruin all too well—and made an extraordinary promise:
Isaiah 61:1–4
[1] The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
[2] to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favour,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
[3] to grant to those who mourn in Zion—
to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.
[4] They shall build up the ancient ruins;
they shall raise up the former devastations;
they shall repair the ruined cities,
the devastations of many generations. (ESV)
This promise is not merely comfort but transformation — beauty replacing ashes, joy replacing mourning, restoration replacing ruin. The One who announces this future must himself suffer and rise again; only then can the ruins be rebuilt and the broken-hearted go free.
We believe that promise was fulfilled through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This Easter, whoever you are, you are welcome to come and discover that promise for yourself.
